Notary Public Applicants

Requirements to Become a California Notary:

  • Be 18 years of age or older (there is no maximum age)

  • Be a legal California resident

  • Complete a course of study approved by the Secretary of State

  • Satisfactorily complete and pass a written examination

  • Clear a background check

Anyone applying to be commissioned as a Notary Public in the state of California must be Live Scan fingerprinted.
